After you get a grip on how people earn a living online, you need to work on learning a single aspect, technique, or strategy.

The most crucial step for your website optimization is to get enrolled in various search engines and directories! If you are a passionate browser then you must have come across various services that are provided on the net "Automatically Submit Your Site To 100,000 Search Engines and Directories".

Let me tell you now, these are entirely useless. I'm sure you are well aware that, Google is rated as the ace search engine in the world.

Getting ranked in Google is quite a simple task and requires getting a link or two in popular directories. A site with a Google PR of 5 or 6 will bring the search engines to their sites daily and if your link in on that site it will automatically be added to Google's index.

Don't use Google's submission service nor any of the other fly by night services to submit your site. There is no need, believe me!

Now don't forget the basic points of website optimization as they hold good for google too. Always select the right keywords for your site optimization. It is better to go for niche keywords, especially when starting out as it will be more difficult to rank for some of the most popular terms.

The two deciding factor for Google's ranking are the name of your domain and the title tag. Put in the keywords in the name of your domain. If you have not done so, an alternative is to add your keywords into the names of your pages.

Your title tag is no less important than your domain name. Incorporating keywords in your title tag can improve your Google ranking significantly.

Also take into account 'h1 tag'. The Google ranking system states that if you're using a H1 tag, then the text in between this tag must be more important than the content on the rest of the page. Maintaining a proper keyword density in your content will also help in ranking high.

On page optimization is not the be all and end all of the game. 'Link popularity' is one of the most determining factors in the ranking of your websites with the major
search engines like Yahoo and Google. The more websites you get linking to you the better for a top search engine position.

But before going further, let's look into some major factors in off-page ptimization:

Firstly, the anchor text. This is the hyper linked text to send people to your website. Therefore your anchor text should essentially consist of some of your keywords as it is used by Google to decide whether your website is pertinent to a particular topic.

Secondly, look for websites that are related to your websites' topic. If the website that links to you is related to your topic then that's an additional benefit. So begin by submitting your website to popular directories.

Do a search on Google for popular directories based on your sites' topic. A great way to do this is to enter your website topic and the the words "add link" in the search
like this one to find work at home directories:

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-22,GGLG:en&q=work+at+home+add+link

This will give you 1000s of places to add your website link.

When adding your website to these directories make sure to create a link back to the link partners before submitting your own link.

Step One: The first and foremost task is to focus your attention on the title on your web page. The title at the top plays a key role in ranking your site high in search
results. Always select a title that has the main key words that you want to optimize for.

Step Two: Always be sure to having Meta tags on your page. This is crucial for on-page optimization. Google uses the description part of your meta-tags. Step Three: Now it's time to look at the body of your website. Here, maintaining the
proper key word density is vital. Now what's keyword density? Suppose your web page has 500 words and you use the keyword 'weight loss', say, 25 times, then the density comes to 5 percent.

Some people say a key word density of 5 to 10% is quite good. Now I personally recommend a kyword density of exactly 3 percent. A good density assures the site will rank well. Try to throw the keywords here and there in the content to maintain optimum density. Nonetheless, the content should make sense to the people
visiting the site.

Besides these, there are other clues to ranking well. These include header tags, Bolding, italicizing, underlining, and image tags. You can include your key word in the tag to enhance its strength. It is sort of an indicator to the search engine that this keyword is very important. Bolding, italicizing, underlining etc. will also add strength to the keyword.

The last tip for today - put in your main keywords at the top of the page as well as at the bottom for the search engine reads the page from the top left hand side of
the page to the bottom right hand side of the page.
