***UPDATE 4/9/2009 Please See Old Skool Drops List - Thanks***
Hello peoples and what up Entrecard users? Have you heard about Entrecard and their new paid advertising system. It's freaking ridiculous and they really got me good today on top of it all (I'll tell you about that one later). So here's the story about Entrecard and the paid advertising scam they have going on. You're either going to like it or hate. I haven't decided for myself just yet.
Here is the summary of Entrecard's new paid advertising program directly from the Entrecard blog:
Our much anticipated Ad Network is now online and fully operational! As a blogger, from your dashboard, you can toggle your “advert settings” for control over what ads can even apply to advertise on your blog, and each paid ad that wants to advertise on your blog will show up in a new column on your dashboard labeled “paid ads” just under the normal blog ads. From here, you can reject any paid ad you like, freely and quickly. Revenue generated from these paid ads will go to fund our future operations, feature development, more servers, and all that good stuff, as well as a war chest to cash out all your credits with (or all the credits of those who wish to cash them out!). So please approve paid ads proudly knowing you’re supporting Entrecard and the only true virtual economy in the blogosphere!
Entrecard Paid Advertisers
If you’re interested in advertising across the entire Entrecard network, or by category, you can signup here to beta test our ad network. It is stable, and runs and operates smoothly, but we’ll be adding some bells and whistles over the coming days/weeks/months.
Rates
For now, you can purchase network-wide advertising for just $.02 (two cents) Cost-Per-Click or $.30 (thirty cents) CPM. Targeted by category, the prices double to $.04 CPC and $.60 CPM. We offer you a real-time statistics broken down by clicks received, impressions, cost per click, CPM, and CTR.
Now how this works is that Entrecard will be switching out your normal unpaid entrecard ad bought with credits for paid ads from the new paid advertising network. And they will be doing this by using the following equation.

Now does this make any sense to you? I don't like it at all. The main problem I see here with Entrecard's new paid advertising system is that I do not get any of the money being charged to advertise on my website. Now I like Entrecard and everything but I am not going to pay them to use their service and essentially thats exactly how it feels to me.
Plus the new Entrecard paid advertising program got me real good right off the bat. I wasn't around the past few days as I was running and gunning throughout the weekend like a madman, but today when I logged into Entrecard I didn't know about their paid advertising crap yet and saw a ton af ads waiting to be accepted.
I thought to myself, holy shit, I am going to make a killing in Entrecard credits. I didn't realize they were part of Entrecard's new paid advertising program because I hadn't heard about it and didn't notice the small assed paid ads marker. So I accepted like 20 plus ads and now I am stuck with them running off and on until these people run out of funding for that particular ad campaign. WTF!
With me, the jury is still out on Entrecard's new paid advertising network. What do you think? Please leave a comment and tell us all what you think about Entrecard's new paid advertising!

I'm not interested either.
Omg! I didn't know about these and I just approved all those paid ads..I got the same feel..WTF! Why I should help Entrecard to make money? darn...
I'm going to boot Entrecard!
Regards,
Lee
"Now I like Entrecard and everything but I am not going to pay them to use their service"
I've been seeing this comment far too much lately, and not just regarding Entrecard. Step back and listen to yourself for a moment. "I like X but I'm not going to pay for it." What if X were, I don't know, your electricity or phone service, or your cable TV. Of course you wouldn't say that about those things. So why is it that as soon as it's on the internet, people think they're entitled to get it for free, no matter what it costs those who are providing it?
Not only does Entrecard have some pretty high operating costs in terms of staffing, hosting and bandwidth, but a lot of people have been pressing them to allow EC credits to be cashed out. Where are they supposed to get the money for that?
To Lee who commented before me... Why should you help Entrecard make money? Because you are enjoying the fruits of their labor.
Entrecard has been announcing all of these changes for quite some time, and most of us were well aware of it and the options to opt out (though shame on you if you do). You should have been paying more attention.
No wonder so many ads appear in dashboard. I thought I could make lots of credit but just something wrong. Now I get the answer already. Thanks for the detail information.
I'm the communist? You're the one who expects to get something for nothing. The irony... you write a blog about making money online, but apparently you're the only one allowed to do so.
I just realized this too when I signed in to Entrecard this morning and had the same WTF expression as you did when I saw the line of pending ads all the way down the page. lol!
Luckily, I did see the New PaidAds header. My first thought was, whooa! they're paying me now? That would have been totally cool, right?
Then I googled it and your post is the first result I got. They've got to be freakin' kidding, right? So they get paid and we get zip? Uhmmm... I don't think that makes this momma very UNhappy.
Entrecard does not give me enough traffic or benefit to allow them to advertise for free on my website. My $0.02.
JMom - Of course I'm number 1 in Google for it. That's precisely why I wrote the article, I want all the free traffic from Google for it. LOL! For real though, this is a quote off of Entrecard's main page -
"Entrecard is a free blogging network that truly brings visitors to your blog. By joining Entrecard, you can earn credits which allow you to display an ad of your blog on other blog sites within our Network. Sign up today and see why tens of thousands of bloggers are using Entrecard!"
One would can only assume it's free til they try to make money off you right?
And HelloKit, I want everyone to make money online, hence the make money online blog. Now just because you are from Oregon and you are stupid, that doesn't mean that this website doesn't help anyone who will help themselves learn to make money online. Even people like you HelloKit.
Thanks!
HelloKit - I got what I wanted from you, I insulted you and you were dumb enough to give me a link from your site. HAHA! So now I can take the traffic you fail and will continue to fail to monetize and make it work for me. I guess I should say Thanks and keep the links coming!
I just checked at Entrecard and it appears they have changed and are now paying 75% commission
Dan Blackburn - Entrecard is not payng out 75% commissions on Paid Ads. What they are doing is taking the money from Paid Ads, putting in a seperate account, then taking 75% of that money and buying ec's back from users if the user so wishes. Big big differences!
Also people, DO NOT CLICK ON DAN BLACKBURN'S NAME to see his site unless you want to be taken to an affiliate squeeze page where he will be trying to sell you something EXPENSIVE. Sorry Dan but I really don't like it when people leave their affiliate links in my comments section. I see that as very tacky and unsportsman like in the world of IM. Thanks!
I joined two days ago and I am so confused about how this works, worked, and will work because of all this.
I'm not going to ask for help, I'll just share my confusion.
The Entrecard widget is on my site. On my dashboard I have "on your widget" and under that "approved paid ads". Do they display on the same widget? New feed? Different area? Who knows...
I'll just drop and cross my fingers for the time being. Maybe I am blind, but I can't find any straight answers on the dang Entrecard website....
Amy Lynn, Now you have 2 options with Entrecard.
1. You can accept any ads you like on your widget that will be paid to you in Entrecard credits or ec's minus a 12% tax. Now the more ec ads in que, the more dropping you do, and the reciprocal drops you recieve, that all will drive up the price of ads on your widget with ec's being paid to you.
2. You have the option to let ads that pay cash to Entrecard to run on your widget. Now they wil run approximately 50% of the time and you get none of the proceeeds.
In the line where you accept ads, the ec ads are on top and headlined by a yellow and black button that says advertisers. The paid ads are directly below that and they have a blue and black button thats says paid ads.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask more questions...
