Lijit, I Added the Lijit Search Engine to this Blog

Hello everyone. Guess what, I have added a new search service called Lijit to this blog if you haven't noticed. Lijit builds search powered applications for web publishers like you and I.

Here is what Lijit has to say about themselves.

What if searching on the web worked the way it did in real life?

When your readers search for information in real life, their first step is to typically seek out a friend for the answer. If their friend doesn’t have the answer they need, someone in that friend’s social network may. Eventually, they get an answer they trust, because it came from a source they trust. Your readers can now have that same experience on the web and it all starts with the source they trust. That source is you, the blog publisher.

What if your readers could search you and everything you’ve created for answers they’d trust?

Say you write a blog about all things TV. When your readers use Lijit to search you for “television”, the results might include blog posts you’ve authored about Tivo and HDTVs, as well as bookmarks you’ve made about next season’s programming lineups.

What if, when your readers searched you, their search would also include results from your social network and everything those people have created too?

Not only would their search return your blog posts and bookmarks, but it would also return blog posts your colleagues and friends have written about LCD vs. Plasma technology, bookmarks they’ve made about great sites to purchase HDTVs, and posts from blogs they read that discuss HTDV programming.

Using the power of people, their content, and their connections, Lijit enhances the way your readers search for and discover information on the internet. You serve as a filter for all of the results your readers could possibly receive, ensuring they only receive the most relevant results from the source they trust…YOU.

Just like it works in real life.

You’ve likely spent a lot of time writing blog posts, bookmarking sites you like, posting photos and videos, and creating the perfect blogroll. That makes for a lot of YOU online -- a collective reflection of your personality, interests, network, and expertise. Unfortunately, there's no easy way for others to benefit from all of that effort...or is there?

Lijit allows you to easily create your own search engine. One that searches your blog, bookmarks, photos, blogroll, and more. By offering the Lijit Search Wijit on your blog, readers can search all of YOU. In turn, Lijit gives you detailed statistics about those searches, so you can better understand and serve your reader community.

Sounds like something you'd like? Check out the Lijit Search Wijit!

Below is an example of just what potential your personal Lijit search engine can provide you and your website, blog, or networks.

I have my Lijit search engine in the right hand column at the top of the page here at Great Way to Make Money Online dot com. You can use it to search throguh this website and find exactly what you are looking for.

I have been using Lijit on this site now for exactly 1 week. I originally stumbled across the Lijit search engine on Darren Rowse's Problogger. I thought it was a sweet little tool and figured I would see how it would work for me.

I do not like using the Google Adsense search box because I can never get it to fit the way I want in my blog here. And they hardly have any options for it as to colors and size and that. Plus, if you haven't noticed, there is no Adsense on this blog anyway!

I like the Lijit search engine because it can help you analytically wise also. Today Lijit sent me an email for my weekly stats. Included in the email were:

- Searches on My Website
- Page Views by Day
- Where Readers at Great Ways to Make Money Online Came From
- Type of Results Readers Clicked
- Top Searches (max 25 shown)
- Last Searches (max 25 shown)
- Top Clicked Results (max 25 shown)
- Top Searches that Brought Readers to Your Blog (max 25 shown)
- Blogs that Include You in their Blogroll
- Last Searches That Returned No Results (max 25 shown)
- and of course a nice little Summary

And all of these stats were for the week of (01/25/09 - 02/01/09), so I got a mini analytical breakdown report for the past week for free from Lijit. Of course I could have logged into Lijit at any time to see my stats but it was nice surprise today to have the report emailed to me. Thanks Lijit!

So play around with my Lijit search engine at the top of the page in the right hand column and see if you like it. And if you would like to put Lijit on your website, it's free to join and you can get started right away! Click here to visit Lijit.

Please leave a comment and tell us all what you think about Lijit!

Thanks for giving Lijit a try on your blog and for writing such a comprehensive post on our service. I don't think I can add anything to what you wrote except for mentioning that we also now have an ad network.

If you are interested in opting in to our revenue-sharing program, simply log in to your Lijit account and click on the green box on the right hand side of your profile page.

If you, or any of your readers, have feedback about Lijit, feel free to send them my way. I'm tara at lijit dot com.

P.U.B. viability advisory on LIJIT:

P.U.B., the blogger's union, currently advises Publishers the search widget "lijit" 's viability is in question, and to take basic safety measures to protect content and ongoing function for readers, including:
1) Locate, install, and implement a backup/replacement search/content aggregator
2) Request immediate transparency from Lijit concerning its current and ongoing financing in the current economic climate. If you get an answer, share it with the community.
This advisory is based on Lijit’s refusal to provide transparency on its financial status, despite formal requests from the Blogger’s Union over 30-business day prior to this post. In the current economic environment, P.U.B. is opting to make this advisory in the hopes publishers can get a transparent statement from Lijit concerning its ability to remain viable for publishers moving forward.
Your blogger's Union would rather take on the continued attacks from Lijit then be answerable to Publishers after private entities such as Lijit fail and leave publishers in the lurch concerning their search, content, and revenue (if any) due to them.
Please take any and all appropriate steps necessary to insure your blog remains in tact and functioning should LIJIT fail and in its failure: 1) fail to function; 2) sell your blog's content/assets it has collected; 3) fails to pay promised revenue from the efforts of publisher’s and P.U.B. to date.
Thank you for posting this advisory and taking necessary steps for your blog,
P.U.B.
