Do I Need Some Backlinks?
Friday, March 28, 2008

Everyone knows how important backlinking is to website promotions, but not everyone knows how or where to begin. I know I sure didn't have a clue about internet marketing when I first started building websites and I surely didnt know what backlinking was. (I barely do now.)
So with that being said lets find out the definition of backlinks from our friend Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. This is their definition.
Backlink: Backlinks (or back-links (UK)) are incoming links to a website or web page. The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node (Björneborn and Ingwersen, 2004). Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.
So now we know what a backlink is we need to know why they are important. See this Wikipedia page for that, although you should probably already know that backlinks are important.
Now how about getting started with those backlinks. I found this really great list,
102 Ways To Make Your Site A Back-Link Superstar, by Courtney Tuttle. This article is really informative and a great starter for thinking outside of the box for some backlinking. Check it out for sure!
