Okay. Today I have thought of an excellent link building strategy for my blog and I have decided I would also like to share it with you. So what could this link building strategy be that is so easy that you should have thought of it you ask?
Well, as everybody knows, you need incoming links to your website from high quality websites in your niche. So I suggest googling your niche with the keywords " blogs, blogs list, top list". Know what I mean?
Since this blog is in the "make money online" niche market, I googled "make money online blogs". And the number 1 result was a list titled Make Money Online Top 100 Blogs by the good people over at 45n5.com I already knew about this list from previous dealings with 45n5.com, but now my goal is to get a link back to my site from each of the make money online blogs in that list, whether they are do-follow or not. And just to drive myself crazy,I am going to make a list of rules for myself.
1. I must comment on every site on the list.
2. If they have a top commenters widget, I must get my link on it. (unless it takes some crazy amount of comments like 20 or more)
3. I must use deep links on relevant content.
I think this link building strategy will bring in more traffic one way or another because these are high quality high traffic websites. And hopefully some of their readers click my link and say to themselves, "Holy crap, this blogger knows some good stuff over here, I'm going to check out everything else he has to say".
I will update this post upon completion of this project and let everyone know how it goes! Depending on the length of time this takes, I may have numerous updates. If nothing else, I will definitely learn a lot from the big dogs by reading their articles and commenting.

I started work on this project immediately after posting as am happy to say that I am now listed on every page of John Chow's Blog in the Top Commenters widget. I currently have 27 comments and I think I will add more.

I have continued with this linking strategy and John Chow booted me off his top commentators widget. WTF? Maybe because I dropped 30 some comments in one day? Any ideas? Let me know! I'm working on Shoe Money next!
***UPDATE 11/11/08***
I emailed John Chow about the above problem and he informed me that his top commenters list is weekly, so basically I did all that work getting listed on there for nothing. Ha!
But the good news is I have made it to number 23 so far! I still have a long way to go but that is the fun of challenging yourself!

This seems like a very sensible plan to me. One thing I like to do is to periodically check my backlinks and see if anything "new" comes up. Sometimes, I find one where a blogger or other site has put in a link to something of mine that I had no idea about. I always make a point to visit them and thank them for the link. If their page isn't stumbled or dugg and I like it, I'll submit it as well.
I saw this this morning and sent myself the link. You'll most likely be popping up on our blog in the near future! Great info :)
