SEO Guidelines for the Three Major Search Engines of the Internet





SEO, more commonly known as Search Engine Optimization, although Google calls it Search Engine Optimizers. SEO is becoming more important these days not only for business purposes but also for the extra website exposure on the internet.

Countless queries are executed every second of every day! You never know when a potential customer has just skipped by your website! Therefore, you need to be optimizing every webpage so you will at least increase your site's exposure in response to your specific keywords.

What are Spiders and how do they work? Spiders are Search Engine applications that explore the vast internet. They are constantly looking for new content to analyze and index. Spiders build a list of all other pages referenced by a given page, and eliminate duplicates that exist in the database after double-checking.

So when do the spiders start to visit your site? Googlebot (Google spiders), only visit your site every 90 days. It is believed that if a page changes a lot, Googlebot will visit it more often. Google also tends to visit pages with high Page Rank more frequently than the lower ranked pages.

The following guidelines link to the official releases from their respective search engines' regarding their Webmasters guidelines. These guidelines illustrate what are the important factors they are looking for when indexing and ranking pages.

Following these guidelines will help Google find, index, and rank your site. Even if you choose not to implement any of these suggestions, Google strongly encourages you to pay very close attention to the "Quality Guidelines," which outline some of the illicit practices that may lead to a site being removed entirely from the Google index or otherwise penalized.

Yahoo Search Content Quality Guidelines are designed to ensure that poor-quality pages do not degrade user experiences in any way. As with Yahoo's other guidelines, Yahoo will reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to take any and all action it deems appropriate to ensure the quality of its index.
